Press Conference Health Department Canton of Zurich
The Health Department of the Canton of Zurich held a press conference today to inform about a new support initiative. This initiative is targeted at girls, women, and families affected by Female Genital Mutilation (FGM).
Previously, women and girls in the Canton of Zurich faced difficulties in obtaining specialized assistance related to FGM. Therefore, the Health Department is planning to establish a counseling center aimed at providing support to these individuals.
This cantonal facility will offer affected women information and assistance while also facilitating collaboration among professionals and coordinating prevention efforts.
The founder, Sara Aduse, actively contributed to the development of this support center and was present at today's press conference. She will share her experiences as a woman affected by FGM.
According to estimates from the Federal Office of Police (fedpol), there are approximately 22,500 girls and women in Switzerland who are either affected by FGM or at risk of mutilation. Most of them reside in the cantons of Zurich and Bern. If you are affected and wish to contact Sara Aduse, please feel free to reach out to us.
