Sara Aduse Foundation

About us

Get detailed insights into our mission, vision, and strategy here. We are determined to end the practice of female genital mutilation (FGM) and have set this out in a 10-point manifesto.

Our manifesto includes our political demands and a number of other measures we are taking to tackle FGM. Our goal is a world where women and girls can live free from violence and discrimination.

Our Mission:

Working Together To End FGM”–“Gemeinsam für ein Ende von FGM“.

Our foundation is passionate about ending female genital mutilation (FGM). We believe in universal human dignity and the right of every girl and woman to physical integrity, health, and self-determination. Our targeted actions and programs aim to declare FGM as a harmful practice and support the affected girls and women.

Our goal:
United Nations estimates that over 250 million women are affected by FGM, with an additional 4.2 million girls at risk in 2023 alone. FGM is practiced in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East. But this brutal ritual has reached Europe, Canada, the USA, and Australia. Our ultimate goal is to end Female Genital Mutilation. We want to create a society where girls and women are protected from this harmful practice and their rights are respected. We strive to bring about lasting change in the attitudes, norms, and values that contribute to the perpetuation of FGM.

OUR STRATEGY:

Prevention and awareness raising
We are committed to raising awareness about the harmful effects of FGM and educating communities about the negative consequences of the practice. We conduct trainings, workshops, and awareness campaigns to raise awareness about the rights of girls and women.

Community empowerment
We work closely with community leaders, religious leaders, and local organizations to address the harmful traditions and cultural beliefs that contribute to the perpetuation of FGM. We promote dialogue to instigate change and encourage alternative initiatives that respect the dignity and rights of girls and women.

Supporting affected girls and women
We provide comprehensive support for girls and women affected by FGM. This includes medical care, psychological support, educational opportunities, income generation, and legal advice. We are committed to ensuring that those affected receive the help they need to lead healthy, self-determined lives.

Capacity building
We invest in strengthening local capacity by providing educational programs to build knowledge and skills in communities. We promote the training of health workers, teachers, and social workers to identify and prevent FGM and provide appropriate support to affected individuals.

Our Vision:

Sara Aduse, Founder and President of the Sara Aduse Foundation: "I want the whole world to know about this heinous and misogynistic crime. I will not rest in creating I will not tire of shaking people awake. No girl - like me - should have to suffer this cruel ordeal. Every woman and every girl has the right to "physical integrity and a free, self-determined sexuality."

The Sara Aduse Foundation is internationally active, politically, and denominationally neutral. It is recognized as a Swiss charitable foundation. Projects and campaigns of the Sara Aduse Foundation are financed by donations which are tax-deductible in Switzerland.

Our Demands:

We have set out our demands for the abolition of the practice, our political demands, and further measures against FGM in a 10-point manifesto.
